Alsager Games Session for people living with dementia

As part of Alsager Partnership's ongoing initiative "Working to become a dementia friendly community", a dedicated Games Session is now available to people living with dementia and their carers.

The main attraction is a Therapy Table Tennis Table that has been commissioned by the Bouncy Alzheimer's Therapy (BAT) Foundation, alongside other more familiar games such as 4 In A Row, Dominoes, Quoits and Cards.

"Whilst Alzheimer's is not an age-related disease, as an ageing nation there are more and more older people being diagnosed.  In those living with dementia and Alzheimer's, the hippocampus is shown to be smaller, but activity such as table tennis has been shown to help with blood flow to the brain and stimulate that part of it.  The idea is that if the hippocampus is stimulated and therefore bigger, and not left to waste away, it can support the brain to hold back symptoms of Alzheimer's for longer." - Andrew Battley, BAT Foundation.

This activity is supported by suitably trained workers and volunteers and is designed to help keep anyone living with dementia active

The fee is £2.50 per person and refreshments are included.

So, do come along and meet with old friends and perhaps make some new whilst enjoying some social and active time together.  Anyone living with dementia and their carers are most welcome.

PARKING - Please note that parking is on the allotment car park to the side of the school entrance.
