Cheshire East Information Advice and Support (CEIAS)

Description

The service is free and impartial. It provides information advice and support to parents, carers and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs or disabilities who live in Cheshire East. Staff and trained volunteers work with parents and young people and can provide telephone or email advice. In addition, a member of the team can visit parents at home or can accompany them to meetings if required. We will always do our best to accommodate the needs of our parents and young people.  Our role is to make sure parents and young people have the information they need to help them to take part in discussions with staff from education health and care services. It is important that they understand all the possible options open to them. They can then discuss how they would like to be helped so that they can move forward successfully.

We can signpost parents, carers and young people to other more specialist advice and support including services offered by voluntary organisations. This might include help with housing, health and employment.

Families who need help with the new Education Health and Care assessments or information about Personal Budgets can request assistance from an Independent Supporter. These people will be recruited locally and receive accredited training.

We have a range of leaflets and a website which provides current and impartial advice and guidance and also lists helpful addresses.

We hold regular information events and work closely with the Parent Carer Forum.

Our brief is to empower parents and young people and not to overpower them
